Serendipitously outstanding fashion decisions

This weekend I popped through Bluestockings, a rad(ical) little bookstore in the East Village. I got a couple books on women's protest movements in South Africa and a situationalist anthology, and on a whim, an adorable tee shirt with this image:

The woman at the counter wrote down the name of the cartoonist, Stephanie McMillan, and her cartoon, Minimum Security. I looked more closely at the shirt and noticed it was fairly traded from Bangladesh. So this morning I looked her up, and cot damm, she was the one who drew this:

About which Senator Bill Napoli, sponsor of abortion ban, South Dakota, said: "The cartoon generated a huge amount of filth, intolerable filth."
Also turns out she started the fair trade tee shirt line on which the shirts were printed, called Fair Wear. It's now defunct, which is a shame, but I got one of the last of the run. Through the series of tubes shirt fiasco, I found a company called Hae Now, who I recommend to anyone wanting to print your own shirts. I also got really cute shoes but they don't possess the same warm and fuzzy factor.
