Bike selling decisions!

May. 14th, 2008 | 02:47 am
posted by: [info]nocoins in [info]bikepirates

So, after talking to my roommate tonight about wanting to take some long bike trips on my road bike this summer, he is starting to convince me that I should have a "touring bike" that wasn't put together with paper clips and Popsicle sticks. He manages a bike shop in town and I can get a good deal from him… but it means selling one of my other bikes.

I have about 6 bikes in my possession and I currently use them in some capacity during the year. If I were going to buy ANOTHER bike, I would need to sell some existing bikes to make it affordable.

Here is the current stable...

2003 Fuji Track - Daily commuter, I cant sell this one since I use it daily to get to and from work.
1969 Columbia Tandem (would probably sell for about $300, but would hate to get rid of this one, I rarely take it out and its taking up a lot of room in the hallway. It needs a full overhaul and I really don't have the time or space to do it.... but its so much fun to ride)
Puig Pursuit Track Bike - This bike has over $2,000 in parts and labor. I built this from the ground up and its one of a kind, I cant make myself sell it even though its impractical for me to keep around and I could make a lot of money from selling it.
1980 Unnamed BMX - this was my first bike ever in 4th grade. Its a wreck but I use it when I have to go somewhere in Philly and I need a bike I can keep locked up overnight. Its basically garbage and not worth anything.
Pink Univega Road Bike - This bike was left on my doorstep by junkies years and years ago. I fixed it up and put my friends old 700c wheels on it. I would probably sell it for about $200 and put the money towards a new touring/road bike.
Single Speed Mountain Bike (snow bike) – My ex built this for me, I wont sell it, its my single speed mountain bike that gets me to work in the snow and rain. It has a lot of sentimental value and even though a touring bike could be built up as a snow bike for the winter, I wouldn't want to get rid of it.

So, basically... I could sell 2 of my bikes and make about $500 towards my new bike which would set me back about $800. It WOULD mean that I would finally have a really nice geared bike that I could use for long distance rides (which is what I plan to do this summer) but man, I really don't want to sell that Tandem, and nothing else I have is really worth anything (other than the Puig, but like I said, its one of a kind and I would regret selling that later on in life.... i think).

My other option is to just dump some money into the Pink Univega, but I don't think I could throw enough money at that bike to make it "tour worthy" and it probably wouldn't be worth it to do so.
Too many bikes!

So, is anyone selling an affordable touring bike (58cm) in Philly?

Which bike would you sell?

i had a decent day but i feel really strange. maybe like waiting for something i know isn't going to happen. feeling as though i'm lacking options. something.

my funds don't show until tomorrow and i overspent in the last two weeks so that left me curious how i'd get through the day.

after i realized this i canceled all plans and got back into bed. i can never nap unless i'm exhausted and i was so i got some sleep i really needed.

when i got up i made rapid plans to meet kim in rittenhouse. i rode up feeling better than i had this morning and read in the grass until 18 coincidentally rolled by. rittenhouse is nice this way. i was still feeling really awkward so i think came off kinda weird. kim and then fred joined us and we picked on people in the park for awhile. fred gave me the kind truth about my story and he's right. shit is all flowery and i need to explain things more clearly if i want anyone to enjoy it or understand what's going on.

18 ran off to take a final so kim, fred and i went to buffalo exchange where they paid me too little for the few items they took. i was left with six striped shirts i didn't want. it was decided that i made off with enough to get something to eat.

kim and i rode down to the jamaican jerk hut and had a wonderful meal outside in the sun.
rode back with her to west philly. she spotted me a little and i gotta remember to get her back next time.
played as six MPC's in benn's campaign. colin picked some guys who were far too strong so i had to knock their ac's down some and pretend like i wasn't rolling as well as i was or i would've killed some core characters. i know, very interesting to everyone.
blah, whatever.
smash brothers.
ambivalence.
drove home.
am home.

want something else.
i'm being infantile.

i have a problem fellow pirates

you see, they started building a subdivision across the street from my moms house
but they never finished it,so now there is a race track for this idiots in their shitty fast and the furious cars.
my grandmother and mother called the cops four times, the first call was at 1:00 p.m.
the cops made a pathetic past by at 9:00 p.m.!
my uncle and i have taken things into our own hands and spread nails across the road
but i fear it hasnt worked
what im thinking is get two strips of duct tape, tape the sticky sides together, push nails threw it and stake the ends to the ground, then cover it with dirt for camouflage
that or nail three nails together and make some caltrops,or something like the duct tape one but with string,or just tacks

the whole point of this post is,
what are yalls suggestions?

o.k. go!

These bikes really were pipe-bombs

JAIPUR, India: In the first terrorist attack in many months, seven bombs went off within minutes of one another on Tuesday evening in the crowded lanes of one of India's main tourist hubs, the historic city of Jaipur, killing 56 and wounding 84, officials said.

The bombs were within a radius of 50 feet within the pink walled city, the police said, and may have been planted in the wheels of bicycles, the mangled remains of which were found near many of the blast sites.

Tell him to gimme a call! Collect, or pay phone, or whatever. His prepaid phone is dead and has the cheery message saying I should call again later.

I guess they decided that prepaid phones were "urban" because the error message guy sounds like Will Smith.

Or tell Bob I'll be at BG tonight, and he can have a ride if he wants. He can't ride his WHIZZER right now so I want to make sure he gets out of the house, gets food, etc.

I just got hired at Coquette about an hour ago. I'll start on tuesday, training with the last guy I fucked and only recently realized was him. I love this restaurant, it's small and fun. And I'll be making cash tips, so that's a MAJOR plus.

I got promoted to team leader at Cirque du Soleil. I get a pay raise but I'm not sure what it is going to be.

The next Bistro show will open the second weekend in June and the auditions are Saturday and Monday. I'm excited about this one but I have not yet read the script. I need to work on my monologue tomorrow.

Jim's coming to see the current show on the 24th. He's got a stage reading coming up that I should go to as I missed his last show.

Today was so nice and warm. Summer's coming!

Now this is interesting.

Somebody has finally found a good use for all those cheap and nasty, department store, full suspension bikes. If it's carefully built, the design might be quite usable. Though in this case, like most Make projects, I get the impression the guy's throwing it together in a half-assed manner just for the fun of it.

The windstorm yesterday blew a limb off of a tree into my grandparents yard. It also blew a chair off of our roof onto the neighbor's roof. The chair punched a hole in the aluminum so Bret decided he had to get it out before we got charged to repair the hole.

First he had to climb out through the kitchen window, and climb down to the lower roof.

Then he had to pull the chair out of the roof.

Getting rid of the evidence.

He made it back in the window with only minor injuries.
